How does waxing hair removal work?

Hair removal wax can be either hard or soft. Hard wax is useful for thicker hair, while soft is used for more sensitive areas. The wax is first warmed to a comfortable temperature, and then your aesthetics professional uses a small spatula to spread it across your unwanted hair in the direction of growth.

For soft wax, strips of clean cloth are pressed into the wax as it cools and used to remove the wax. When hard wax cools, it can be removed without the help of cloth strips.

Unlike shaving, which simply cuts the hair off at skin level so it grows right out again, the wax grips the hair tightly, allowing the entire hair to come out of the follicle. This eliminates rough stubble and extends the amount of time it takes for a new hair to grow.

Does waxing hurt?

You may experience some discomfort or slight stinging sensations from waxing, especially if your hair is on the thicker side or you have sensitive skin. This is usually at its worst the first time you are waxed in an area, and you may find the discomfort diminishes with each subsequent treatment.

What areas of the body can be waxed?

The most common areas that waxing is used for hair removal include:

  • Eyebrows
  • Upper lip
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Abdomen
  • Feet
  • Bikini line

Almost any area of the body can be waxed, although longer, thicker hair can be more uncomfortable to wax.

How long will the results last?

Results can last anywhere between 2-6 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how many times you’ve waxed the area. You may notice after waxing consistently that in some areas your hair grows in slower, that you have less hair in that area, and that the strands have become finer.
